Sustainable Packaging
Sustainable packaging has become a design discipline that no longer gets handled by a leaf icon on the front face. It starts with the material choice and ends at the on-pack claim, and it is increasingly regulated. Eco packaging today has to do three things at once: convince in the hand, work on the shelf and land in the recycling stream without false promises. We design sustainable packaging for brands that do not want to trip over green claims, and for products whose pack is part of the brand promise, not a necessary evil.
What sustainable packaging actually means
A pack is recyclable when it fits the existing waste stream without manual separation. A folding box in FSC carton with mineral-oil-free print and a self-adhesive label from the same material stream works. The same box with a coated window film, hot foil and a PET-foam tray does not. We check material combinations with printers who produce to certified standards and we say what is possible before design starts. That is less comfortable than a colourful mood board, but it is the foundation for packaging design that still holds in five years.
Finishing is the second big topic. Hot foil with aluminium often destroys clean separation. There are PET-based foils that are accepted in mainstream recycling, and blind embossing achieves the same premium feel without any foil. We know the options and choose them deliberately, in line with the brand positioning, so the material carries the statement instead of contradicting it.
What we actually deliver
A sustainable packaging project starts with a material consultation. We review the current range, look at which recycling streams the product reaches, and assemble options for carton, label, sleeve and interior fit-out. Then we design the system, always in alignment with the printer, because material and finishing cannot be decoupled from production. For clients with their own sustainability report we integrate the packaging logic into the reporting so marketing and CSR speak one language. You receive print-ready data, a final sample and a short labelling recommendation on what can actually be claimed about recyclability and certifications.
Material before marketing
A recyclable pack starts with FSC paper or mono-material, not with a leaf logo. We make material decisions before we design.
Finishing with responsibility
Hot foil, transparent windows and coated foils can destroy recyclability. We know what works and what does not.
Certifications that mean something
FSC, PEFC, Cradle to Cradle, Blue Angel. We know the requirements and work with printers who produce to those standards.
Honest over greenwashed
A pack that is not recyclable does not become green because a leaf gets printed on it. We say what works and what is a marketing lie.

Frequently asked
Material can be 10 to 30 percent more expensive, depending on grade and finishing. Design fees barely differ because we put in the same work. A packaging line with sustainable material lands between €8,000 and €22,000 depending on complexity and range breadth.
For food and tea, FSC-certified carton, grass paper and mono-material PE are well established. For spirits and cosmetics we work with recycled glass, natural-paper-based labels and compostable bio-plastics. We choose by recycling stream, not by trend.
A pack is recyclable when it fits the existing waste stream without manual separation. We check material combinations, talk to printers about coatings and adhesives, and document what may be communicated. Greenwashing has become legally risky.
The regulation introduces mandatory recycling rates, recyclate shares and a unified labelling system. We design packs that hold up under 2030 requirements, not only until the next inventory.
Yes. Sustainable packaging projects for brands in every region of Germany are part of normal work. Briefings, material samples and proofs run remote, material consultation with certified printers we coordinate as well.
